Everlost by Neal Shusterman (Skinjacker #1)

the book: Everlost
by: Neal Shusterman
bought / borrowed? : borrowed from the library
release date: august 22, 2006
pages: 303
publisher: Simon & Schuster
series: yes, Skinjacker trilogy #1

summary:
Allie and Nick, two kids aged 14, die in a car crash. They do not know each other. They are walking to 'the light' , but they are being stupid and they bump into each other. They are unable to reach 'the light'. Their souls do not go where they should. Allie and Nick become part of another world, which is located in our world. They are living in the everlost, and become afterlights. As soon as they wake up, 9 months after the car crash, they are 'welcomed' by one of the older afterlights, who has forgotten his name. He explains them about their new lifes. Allie calls him Lief (which is funny, because that means sweet in Dutch :) ) They cannot be seen by humans.
Allie and Nick want to go home. But that is not as easy as it seems. If they stand still they will sink to the centre of the earth! Still, they start walking home. They end up in New York, where the twin towers functionate as the afterlight-headquarter. (they are ghost-towers, so there you don't sink to the centre of the earth) Inside that palace, there is Mary. She is the 'mother' of all afterlights, and guides them. But she's not as nice as she seems. Allie is not happy with her life in the towers, and decides to go to the Haunter, because she wants to show her parents that she's still alive. During this trip Nick and Lief are captured, and Allie finds out that she has special powers, because she can move normal things using her willpower.

SPOILER ALERT!

Then the McGill (a monster) captures the Haunter, and Allie has to free Nick and Lief. She moves on board of a ghostship (which is very dangerous, because if you fall in the water you will sink to the core of the earth) and finds out that she also has the ability to skinjack. The McGill is very interested in learning to skinjack. He does not capture Allie btw. Allie pretends to teach the McGill how to skinjack, but actually she does not. The McGill starts to like her. She makes a plan, to free her friends and the other afterlights.
In a final battle is revealed that the McGill is actually just a boy who forgot how he looked, and that he is the broter of Mary, who is actually called Megan. McGill is the surname of the 'monster' who is actually just called Mikey. Allie has almost sunk to the core of earth, but Mikey, who has fallen in love with her, saves her. Nick finds out that he and Mary are enemies. He has to free all children, but Mary won't let go of them. Nick saves lots of children by giving them their coins.
(omg, I just typed all of that by myself O.o)

my review:
loved this book! I think it was written for children a little bit younger as me, but still I loved it!! Most of all I loved the character of the McGill, the monster who is actually just a boy. The way he hates everybody but loves Allie is kinda romantic, even when there is no romance shown at all. Also I like the world, the everlost. I  just want to believe in it, it seems so realistic.
The author did a great job thinking of the plot of the book, and it was great. Also, the characters were not bad (in a twilight way) but great!
It took me quite long to read the book, not because it was hard to read, but just because it was sometimes kinda slow. But whatever :D

Cannot wait to read part 2!

Diary of a wimpy kid - Jeff Kinney

Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, #1)hi everyone :D

the book:
Diary of a wimpy kid (#1) - Jeff Kinney

genres:
young, humor, school

note:
this book is NOT young adult! I read it because my sister made me, she just loved the book. I did not really like it. But still, I get why all younger children like this book so much. I would recommend it to all children aged 7 - 11, boys and girls, they'll love the book. But, if your older, you might still like it ;)

on amazon:
(sorry I am lazy today...)
Boys don’t keep diaries—or do they?

The launch of an exciting and innovatively illustrated new series narrated by an unforgettable kid every family can relate to

It’s a new school year, and Greg Heffley finds himself thrust into middle school, where undersized weaklings share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving. The hazards of growing up before you’re ready are uniquely revealed through words and drawings as Greg records them in his diary.

In book one of this debut series, Greg is happy to have Rowley, his sidekick, along for the ride. But when Rowley’s star starts to rise, Greg tries to use his best friend’s newfound popularity to his own advantage, kicking off a chain of events that will test their friendship in hilarious fashion.

Author/illustrator Jeff Kinney recalls the growing pains of school life and introduces a new kind of hero who epitomizes the challenges of being a kid. As Greg says in his diary, “Just don’t expect me to be all ‘Dear Diary’ this and ‘Dear Diary’ that.” Luckily for us, what Greg Heffley says he won’t do and what he actually does are two very different things.

my opinion:
The book is full of cartoons O.o awesome. Also, I read this book in less than 90 minutes, so it was not hard to read at all. Actually, it was way too easy...
I did not like the character Greg, all he cares about is himself amd being popular, even if he has to set aside his best friend. I DID like his best friend! Rowley is this funny awesome dude who just does not want to grow up. I want him as my crazy best friend O.o
I totally get why 10 year olds love this book. First, because it is full of cartoons, which means they have less to read, which means they like it. (Or at least Dutch children do like it because of that... stupid children O.o) second: it was a kind of funny book. Third, because all children want an easy book to read. And this book was one of the easiest I have ever read since 4th grade or something...

the book was in one word:
childish

extra:
There is also a movie made of this book. I have seen it, but I preferred the book, and I did not really like the book, so...

ratings:
goodreads: 3.96 / 5
mine: 2 stars / 5 (2.3)

The forest of hands and teeth - Carrie Ryan

Helloooo everyone :3 I just read the forest of hands and teeth; here's what I think about it:

genres:
young-adult, zombie apocalypse, dystopian

note
I did not even know what this book was about when I started reading, I just loved the title and saw that it was good on the internet, so I went to the library and borrowed it.

the book:
In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?
-^the back of the book ^-

my opinion:
I just LOVED the book. I did not know that the book was about zombies, but that made it even more awesome!! (I am a friggin' zombie lover O.o) The girl in the book, Mary, is not a very stupid character. Actually, she is a pretty good girl. Why does everything have to happen to her. She is so strong. You also have the character Travis. I really think he's a jerk!! Seriously, he is married, but loves someone else, who is also married (to his brother!!) and loves him. But, he did not go for her because his brother loved her. It just makes no sense o.o . Then there is Mary's brother, Jed. He also is a very good character, and also for him counts, why does all the bad stuff have to happen to him?! Seriously what was wrong with the author?
Then you also have the future world. It seems like the zombies (the Unconsecrated) have taken over everything, including all people. It's just horrible to see how the world will be in this future. Let's all be happy that our world is not like that one...
The whole point of the book is actually this Mary girl looking for the sea.

the ending of the book:
!! full of spoilers !!
After everyone died  (yeah, every single person I really loved or hated in this book ;c ) Mary finally finds the sea, and meets a men there. That's the ending, that's it. Love the ending, it is super-sad. But because of that it is just perfect.

ratings:
goodreads: 3.62 / 5.0
mine: 4 stars / 5 (or 8.3 / 10)

extra:
there's gonna be a friggin' MOVIE O.o (with Kristin Stewart who'll hopefully not ruin the whole movie... :S)
also, there's a part 2 :D Gonna try to read it as soon as possible!!

a few of my old reviews

hi guys!

I decided that I did not post enough reviews, so here are four of my old reviews
enjoy!

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

#1 of the caster chronicles.
categories: young-adult, fantasy, witches, romance
first tought: wow, the cover is awesome! have to read!!

This book is about Ethan. He is just a normal boy from a normal village in America, the kind of village you are born in and you die in. The kind of village you never leave, and the kind of village where everyone knows everyone and new people aren't tolerated. And that is what happens when a new girl, Lena, moves to the village. She is different, different from everyone living in the village. She is goth, and wears a strange necklace. But Ethan does not think of her as a stranger, he feels like he knows her, he has had dreams of her, and he is almost certain that she knows, too. Later he finds out she knows. He also finds out she is a Caster, a kind of Witch. She will be claimed on her 16th birthday, when her fate will be chosen for her. good or bad, Reece or Ridley. And, most important, love Ethan or forget about him? They search for a way to stop the curse, and find a locket that gives them visions about a past in which their ancestors lived. (totally the vampire diaries...) Meanwhile the villagers will start to hate Lena even more, and their fear for her uncle, Macon Ravenwood, will stay the same. That's because he never leaves house, and only rumours are what they know about him. And some people may not be what they always seemed to be. Lena and Ethan go through lots of stuff, while her birthday is still approaching...

my opinion:
this was totally amazing, I read the whole book, 568 pages or something, in 2 days, which is even for me very fast, since english is not my origin language. I like that the book is written by 2 women, but the main character is male, but they still made him interesting, and a good character. Maybe even one of the best characters I've lately been reading about. That's why I immediately after posting this message will start reading #2 of the series, Beautiful Darkness!
Also I love the topic of this book, history coming to the present, people not being who they seem to be, witches and, most of all, the part about fate.
Tough I love Ethan, I think the best character of the book is Lena Duchannes, which is strange because she is not the one you can read the toughts of. She seems very interesting, loving to read and a wannabe writer. I want to be like her, and have a room which 'wrote itself' that would be totally amazing!

So that's why this book will get a 9.2 out of 10!

Ghostgirl by Tonya Hurley

 Ghostgirl by Tonya Hurley.
Categories: Young (maybe YA...) Fantasy, humoristic
First tought about this book: the cover is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!
the sides of all pages are silver :D

The book is about Charlotte, a girl who is a nobody, and who wants to be a somebody at high school. She wants to have her midnight kiss at the school party. She wants to be bff''s with the most popular girl, but she never will, she dies.
but does life really end when you die? What if you haven't completed the one thing you really had to do. In that case, you go to the ghostschool, where you can still see people, but people can't see you. You have to stay there until you complete your final task. Charlotte meets new people at the ghostschool, but she does not want to let go her old, stupid, high-school life and all her classmates will start to hate her. Charlotte finds out that there is one human that can see her, Scarlett, the gothic sister of the most popular girl in school, the exact opposite of Charlotte. She and Charlotte can swap bodies, and they do. But both of them love the same boy, and that is a problem...
In the end everything will get right, and she can let go life

my opinion on this book:
this is a very very very very very very ... ... (it goes on for a long time) bad book!!! The main character is one of the worst I have ever read about, the story sucks, and all of it is predictable. And come on, she dies because she chokes on a GUMMY BEAR O.o (jeez, gummy bears really are dangerous)
She is a nobody that will never become a somebody. She is not even good at trying to be a somebody! She could just accept herself and be who she wanted to be, who she was, but no, she wanted to be popular so badly she died for it.

I will rate this book:
23 / 100 (haha okay that's a crazy rate...)
2 stars xD

Fallen by Lauren Kate

Fallen, the Fallen series #1 by Lauren Kate

The cover is amazing :)
The book is Young Adult and Fantasy
If you love twilight you will love this book!!

The book is about Luce, a character I do not really like... (okay, I hate her.)
She meets this boy, Daniel, and he starts by giving her the finger and stuff. And what does Luce do? She falls in love with him (totally obvious)
But he does not show any interest in her. she starts stalking him (seriously, stalking? creepy...)

(from here spoiler - alert)
Luce find out about her past, and that is were the book gets interesting. She finds out Daniel is an angel (a fallen angel) and that they were cursed to be together for eternity.
That doesn't seem very bad, but it gets worse... Every time they kiss, Luce will immediately catch fire and die. 17 years later she returns, she finds Daniel again, kisses him again and dies. and that for over 1000 years. He still is in love with her, and in this life they can kiss. They find out that if Luce gets killed this time, she will not return again. Some people attemt to kill her, but they don't succeed.
The book ends with a battle between good and evil, ending without a winner

I do like the book, but it will never be my favourite book. thats why I rate it 3 stars

rest of series
#1 Fallen (3 stars)
#2 Torment (2 stars)
#3 Passion (4.5 stars) (!)

hope you liked them!!

sunday evening boredom #1

Hi guys,

sunday evening boredom, hate it. I have been studying all day, 7 exams in the next three days (!), so I had to ;c
Now I have the feeling that I still don't know anything, that I ruined my whole weekend and I have a headache
Poor me!

But enough with the sad talk :D
Let's make a weekly sunday evening boredom post!
- most stupid idea ever -

sunday evening boredom #1
my top 5 most awesome ya paranormal romance covers :D

#1 - the wolves of the Mercy Falls trilogy - Maggie Stiefvater

I just LOVE these bookcovers, all three of them.
If you've read the book, they become even better
book one only one wolf - Sam -
on book two a girl - grace -  and a wolf - sam -
and book three with a boy - sam - and a wolf - grace -
most freakin' awesome bookcovers EVER!

#2 Matched and Crossed - Ally Condie

These covers are beautiful, and defenitely not a bad number 2!
They also tell a story,
on book one you see the girl inside the bubble, the authorities, trying to get out
and on book two you see her getting out of the bubble, following her own will.
I just can't wait to read Crossed, after seeing this cover!

#3 Wither - Lauren Destefano

This cover is great, because it is so different.
Nothing usual, not something you just think of
just like the book!
The cover is going on on the back of the book, but I did not find a good picture of it ;c

#4 Fallen - Lauren Kate

It's hard to admit, but I kinda love the cover of Fallen...
Liking the cover has nothing to do with the inside of the book, right?
I loved the cover, and started to read it, and then I found out it sucked.
And btw the cover of fallen is more beautiful than the other covers of the series ;)

#5 Twilight - Stephenie Meyer

This one was almost as hard to admit, or maybe even harder...
I am NOT a twilight hater, but also no twihard!
But I guess everyone has to admit that the cover fits the book so good...

- this are the best I could think of at the moment, and for this category! -

what should I make my top 5 (or 10) of next sunday evening?
put it in your comment!!

Forever (Wolves of the Mercy Falls #3) - Maggie Stiefvater

O my god, I espected this book to be sooooooo good!!! (and it was)
Hell, I loved it (or at least most of it)

title: Forever
part of a series?: yes, Wolves of the Mercy Falls
author: Maggie Stiefvater

first of all, I must tell you that it totally L.O.V.E.  the cover, like all the covers of the books in this series. Also, I like the colour of the letters, which is red, my favourite :D

Summary of the book:
- spoilers if you did not read shiver and linger -
Sam is finally cured, and now Grace is changing. She is walking through the forests, in her wolf form. Sometimes she changes back, but never it's long enough to meet Sam. Also there still is Cole, figuring out a cure. The wolves are threathened, after they kill someone. They will all be shot soon. Will Sam and the others find a way to save the wolves, or will they all die?

my opinion:
- spoilers -
I totally LOVED the book!! I love the wolves, and the way they think. I love the romance between Sam and Grace, and Isabelle and Cole. The book made me cry when I thought Cole died, which he (luckily) hadn't. It made me love Sam even more. It made me feel stupid, because Cole seemed so smart. It made me want to be a wolf, but only sometimes :)

Also, I love the way Maggie Stiefvater writes. It's a kind of poetic, but not very difficult to read. I really like all the parts of German poems she put in the book. I thought she did that because she was German, but after checking her site, I saw she was American...  (I tought she was German because of her surname, vater means father xD )

But, one thing totally ruined it, one of the most important things, the ending. That was so horrible. The ending of a trilogy, and you just don't know what will happen -.- I espected there'd be an ending in epilogue-form. Like it was at the Hunger Games and Harry Potter. ( I do not really like those endings, but I just want to know what happens to the main characters...)
Do they get happily-ever-after or will Grace die? I am seriously dying to know it, but I will never know ;c

Altogether I will rate this book 4 stars

one of the most amazing series I have ever read, and one of the worst endings. Loved it and I'm sure that I will re-read this book next year! Thanks for the awesome experience, Maggie Stiefvater!

Can't wait to read her next series, the scorpio races!

x Margot-who-just-fell-in-love-with-the-wolves

sorry but I just had to post this blog message in the same colour as the book letters :$

The twilight saga part 4; Breaking Dawn the movie part 1

Finally I watched breaking dawn part one!! here's my review
-spoiler alert if you did not read the book!-

rating:
imbd: 4.0 / 10
metascore: 46 / 100
my rating: 2.5 / 5 stars

The plot:
Bella and Edward are getting married. They are madly in love. They leave for their wedding trip to isle Esmé, somewhere near Rio de Janeiro. Bella wants her 'human experience' and she gets it. But not without consequences.
- spoilers from here on -
She gets pregnant! The baby kills her from inside, but she wants to keep it, suddenly she has maternal feelings. The wolves do not want another creepy creature walking around in their territory, so they decide to kill Bella. Meanwhile Bella is just holding on to life. just. Jacob leaves his pack, and forms a new one, by himself. Bella's baby is born, it's a girl, Renesmee. Jacob imprints on her. Bella is still alive, now as a vampire. end of part 1

What I tought about it:
this part is as spoilery as possible, so don't read it if you don't want spoilers!
I was a twihard, but not anymore. I actually went to the cinema because I wanted to see if the movie was good, bad or very bad. To be honest, it was not good. But not very bad, either.
- The wedding scene
I did like the part of her wedding nightmare, that was some freaky stuff, pretty scary images. I did NOT like the real wedding, where Bella did not seem happy at all. You should be happy at your own wedding, right?! Oh, and I did really hate Bella's wedding dress! It was soo ugly!!
-The honeymoon part
Loved this part, it was the best! I also wanna live on isle Esmé! So goddamn beautiful... Also loved the romance between Bella and Edward, which was better than in all the other movies, and better than it was in the book! (but that was not an impossible task...)
- the Bella-is-pregnant-and-the-wolves-get-angry part
hated this part! It sucked, because this was my favourite part of the first half of the book. They made the baddest part of the whole saga out of one of the bestest scenes in the book. They completely ruined the part with the wolf conversation. Also, they screwed the imprint part of Jacob. The birth of Renesmee was so gross, Bella's face was looking like a skeleton covered in skin, almost grey. She was all covered in blood and stuff, and it was just, ew...
-the 'cliffhanger' ending
I HATE CLIFFHANGERS!
seriously, this so-called cliffhanger was not even that interesting, techincally you just see that Bella is still alive (or whatever you call it when you are an vampire) and her eyes are red.
- the volturi part in between the credits
I was walking away when I saw this part, which is just Aro saying that the Cullens have something (Renesmee) that they wanna have. More cliffhanger stuff -.-

Cycling home I was thinking:
What if the actors in twilight were not pretty? Would Twilight still be popular? I doubt...
2.5 stars, and they should be very happy with that...
